The International Geoscience Program 724 was approved
The Seventh Council of the International Geoscience Program (IGCP) approved the project 724 "Fluid geochemistry and earthquake forecasting" led by Prof. Ying Li (Leader), deputy director of Institute of Earthquake Forecasting, China Earthquake Administration (IEF CEA). The project is jointly submitted by National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV, Italy), Hormozgan University (Iran), Hacettepe University (Ankara) (HUA, Turkey) and University of Athens (UoA, Greece). IGCP 724 plans to conduct comparative studies on the fluid geochemistry anomalies in restricted high seismicity areas characterized by destructive earthquakes in recent time and challenge the use of the geochemistry of fluids in the earthquake forecasting. The project will investigate the fluid sources, migration, and find out the internal relations between the fluid geochemistry anomalies and seismic activities.
As one of the natural science programs of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), IGCP has longest duration, the largest scale, and the most remarkable effect in China. IGCP provides a platform for geologists from China and other parts of the world to know each other, and plays an important role in promoting innovation of geological science and technology and training of high-level talents in China.
