IGCP-724 participated in the IGCP national committee 2022 annual meeting and gave the project work report
The 2022 Annual Meeting of the International Earth Science Program (IGCP) National Committee was held on December 30, 2022 through a combination of online and offline. Prof. Zengqian Hou, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and deputy director of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ms. Danhong Chen, director of department of international cooperation of Ministry of Natural Resources; Ms. Ying Cui, deputy secretary of the secretariat of the General Commission of UNESCO, and Prof. Zhenhan Wu, secretary of the General Committee of China International Geoscience Program attended the meeting.
Prof. Ying Li, deputy director of Institute of Earthquake Forecasting, China Earthquake Administration (IEF CEA), as the leader of IGCP-724 project "Fluid geochemistry and earthquake forecasting" attended the online meeting. He introduced the research background and progress of the project, research results and the key work in the next step are also reported.
As the first year of the project execution, the IGCP-724 completed the website design and began to operate; the project held Kick-off meeting, analyzed the work foundation, and improved the overall implementation plan. And the first training course was been held, the course attracted attentions of over 130 participants from China and other developing countries, China Institute of Disaster Prevention Science and Turkey Hacettepe University set up branch sessions.
In terms of project research, the seismic process and trend prediction of China Seismic Experimental Site (CSES) are carried out, the current tectonic activity state of the North China Craton is revealed by fluid geochemistry research methods, and the conceptual model of geothermal fluid evolution in the study area is initially proposed. In 2022, this project supported the publication of 14 SCI papers and 1 EI paper. Based on the IGCP-724 project, IEF CEA signed a cooperation agreement with Tsunami and Earthquake Research Center (TERC), University of Hormozgan (Iran), and two sides jointly applied for the NSFC-INSF international project "Fluid geochemical characteristics and genetic models of intraplate earthquake and interplate earthquake: a case study of the southeast margin of the Tibetan Plateau in China and the Makran subduction zone in Iran”. In the next step, the project will promote the construction of continuous observation stations of fluid geochemistry in CSES, strengthen the communication with foreign partners of the project, participate in the 2023 Goldschmidt Conference, and jointly apply for international cooperation projects.
